Winter break flew by, and just like that, I'm back in the swing of things with a fresh semester ahead. These first few weeks have been packed with getting back into study mode and adjusting to a new schedule. This semester, we have a lot of presentations and I've been putting in overtime balancing my lab activities, preparing to present, and staying on top of lecture material. It's been a bit of a juggling act, but I'm slowly finding my rhythm again. I'm very excited for what's to come in the Neuropharmacology course. I have a huge interest in cellular mechanisms and I have really enjoyed listening to my peers present on challenging topics and discuss current research in the field.
Winter break gave me a much needed reset. You could find me in the gym, working on my car, or hanging out with my family. One of the highlights of my break was volunteering at a basketball camp for 3rd-8th grade boys and girls. It was very nostalgic. It felt like just yesterday I was the one attending camp, looking up to older players, trying to soak up every drill and piece of advice. Now, being on the other side as a mentor, I saw the game from a different perspective.
What really stood out to me was the energy they brought everyday. They weren't just there to improve their basketball skills; they were learning discipline, teamwork, and perseverance. I had a big moment of reflection on how much sports shaped me growing up. It reinforced the lessons I had learned about team dynamics, communication, leadership, adaptability, and staying composed under pressure. These are all skills that extend far beyond the court and I will carry it with me forever. Seeing young athletes learning those same values reminded me just how much sports can impact personal growth.
